Ear Wax Removal Options
This is one of the safest methods of ear wax removal from the ear canal. Before the treatment, we carry out a visual inspection of the outer ear (called otoscopy) and take a picture before we start and will show you the image on our client display screen.
The ear wax removal will take place in our clinical treatment chair with your ear wax removal clinician wearing full PPE. This includes a head-mounted microscope which allows them to get a clear view of the ear canal whilst removing the wax.
A specula (small plastic cone) is then placed into the ear canal and our hospital-grade suction unit creates a vacuum. A sterile suction probe is then placed through the specula and we gently vacuum the wax from the canal.
Once finished we will then take another picture of the ear canal and show you the results.
Ear irrigation is commonly used in GP surgeries and is not to be confused with Syringing. At our ear wax removal clinics in Sheffield and Barnsley, we find it very effective for removing soft wax deep in the canal.
Before beginning the treatment, we perform a visual inspection of the outer ear (called otoscopy). We also like to take a picture of your ear canal and show it to you before we start so that we can compare this with the final result.
Your ear wax removal clinician will wear full PPE and place a plastic apron over you. The treatment will take place in our clinical treatment chair and will use an electronic ear irrigation machine to gently pump warm water into the ear canal at a controlled and steady rate.
We will also give you a plastic container called a noots ear tank or ear cup to hold under your ear and capture the water and wax that has been flushed out.
Once finished, we take another picture of your ear canal and compare it to the picture we took at the start.
Premium Endoscope Ear Wax Removal in Sheffield
This truly is the gold standard of earwax removal. Before starting the treatment we always conduct a visual inspection (otoscopy) of the outer ear and take a picture that we show you on our client display screen before we start.
You will then sit in our clinical treatment chair as your ear wax removal clinician uses an advanced handheld camera, known as an Endoscope, to obtain a clear view of your ear canal while removing the wax. You can also watch the procedure live on our large wall-mounted HD screen.
We then place the camera into the ear canal and use our hospital-grade suction unit to create a vacuum. A sterile suction probe is then placed into the canal to gently vacuum out the wax. Throughout the entire process, our audiologist will be wearing full PPE and using sterile equipment to ensure your safety.
Once finished we take another picture of your ear canal to compare the before and after images and see the results.

How to Prepare for Your
Ear Wax Removal
We advise that you use a wax softener, such as Earol, for 3-5 days prior to any ear wax removal treatment at our Sheffield or Barnsley clinics. It is normal when you first start using a wax softener that you may notice a short-term worsening of your hearing or your ear feeling blocked. This is due to the wax shifting around as it softens and moves around in the ear canal.
